Amazon compliance: how to LEGALLY sell your product on the US market

Amazon is an online store who delivered ~9.6M packages daily or 3.5B in total in 2019,  becoming the biggest marketplace in the world with the net worth than $1.32T. During the pandemic period Amazon hired 175 000 additional employees and earned $74.5B in the 1st quarter of 2020, which is 26% higher than the same period last year. 

Nowadays this corporation is paying a lot of people’s attention, who are searching for a way to earn much money in no time. You surely have seen these guys with rich cars and gigantic houses on YouTube, who are telling that Amazon is an easy place for earning millions and millions of dollars passively. No offense to them, it’s their duty to attract people’s attention. 

Firstly, you should ask yourself a question “What business I’m planning to deal with?”-If you aren’t really thinking about digging inside Amazon structure/rules and would like to sell at the level of a stall in India, than you would think that actually it’s easy. But if you are making a serious business, planning to make wholesale trades in the US, let’s look into the requirements(certificates, customs clearance, special permissions, labels, etc. Federal’s and state’s ones), which need to be maintained.  

A month ago I received an email from Amazon to become their Regulatory Compliance Manager. On the site with the job’s information, we may see the quantity of the product regulations: CPSIA, FCC, EPA, CCPSA, EN 71, RoHS, WEE, CE mark, IEFTL, etc. Each abbreviation means that the good, which is transported to the US needs to be properly certified by federal and state laws. Misunderstanding and frivolity about the rules can lead to blocking your Amazon account forever and further legal consequences. 

In this situation we can make a connection with an American company called “iHerb”, which was banned 2 times on the Russian territory due to non-compliance with technical regulations.
